Age is not a defect.
A scratch is not automatically damage. Faded paint is not automatically a reason to repaint a car. And fifty years of use do not have to be erased just because we know how to do it.
Old cars tell you a lot if you know where to look. A worn steering wheel. An old repair. A panel that has been painted sometime in the past. Original paint that has lost some of its shine.
The important thing is understanding why it looks the way it does.
There is a difference between patina and neglect. Between a good old repair and a bad shortcut. And there is certainly a difference between preserving something and simply doing nothing.
I love original cars. But that does not mean that I believe every old car should remain untouched. Some need restoration. Some deserve perfection. And sometimes the smartest thing you can do is simply leave it alone.
Knowing the difference takes experience. You have to understand how these cars were built, how they age and what has happened to them during their life. A car is not worse simply because it is old. Sometimes those fifty years are exactly what make it interesting.
